Eyesight
In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions International Convention and asked them to become the 'Knights of the Blind.' Since then, Lions Clubs worldwide have been involved in service to the blind and visually impaired.Sight is one of Lions defining causes. The Saskatoon Lions Club currently supports eyesight through the following projects:
- School Sight Program - The Lions Clubs of Saskatoon contribute funds to the school sight program, which ensures students-in-need in Saskatoon schools can access eyeglasses. Lions receive a contribution from the Saskatoon Community Foundation to administer the program. If you know a child in the Saskatoon region in need, please reach out to [email protected]
- Used Eye Glasses- Our Club picks up used eyeglasses at optometry offices, Saskatoon Co-op Grocery Stores, and Mayfair United Church. These are shipped to Calgary where they are graded and shipped to developing countries to be given out to the poor people (see www.clerc.ca).
